What Makes Jinan Unique

Bian Que was a medical scientist in the Spring and Autumn Period; there was Zou Yan, a master of Five Element Theory from the Warring States Period; and Li Qingzhao was a famed female poet during the Song Dynasty. And while he’s not originally from Jinan, Li Bai wrote countless poems about the stunning beauty of this place.

Rent

The rent for a single apartment in the city center is approximately $287 per month, and that could go down further to $186 if you choose to live outside of the center.

Utilities

The utilities, including water, heat, electricity, internet, and television can cost upwards of $58 per month while taking the bus is very cheap at $9 for a monthly pass.

Food

The price of food here is fairly reasonable and you are very likely to order a lot whenever dining out. A normal meal is about $4~ $5, and local beer costs about $1.75 per liter.

What to Eat in Jinan

In Jinan, you’ll find famed Shandong cuisine. One of the most famous dishes is fried carp with a wonderful sweet and sour sauce that’s nothing like the type of sauce you get in the West. It’s better! You’ll also want to try the cubes of chicken in chili sauce, Yu’s braised chicken, and Jinan’s version of roast duck. If you’re more adventurous with cuisine, give the roasted pork intestines a try. And of course, steamed and fried dumplings make for outstanding snacks when you’re on the go!

Things to do in Jinan

Jinan is the ideal place for you to come teach English if you love being outdoors and exploring. The mountains, rivers, lakes, and of course, the springs, all provide you with plenty to do. Choose Baotu Spring, Wulong Spring, Heihu Spring, or Zhenzhu Spring. You can visit them all!

Additionally, Jinan has over 4,000 years of history tucked under its belt so you’ll find the site of the Shun culture from the 3rd century BC, the Simen Stone Pagoda from the Sui Dynasty, the Lingyan Temple, and the Great Wall section of the State of Qi here too.
